Slack has introduced a significant AI-driven upgrade across its platform, integrating advanced automation and enhanced search capabilities directly within the workspace. This update is designed to help teams maintain focus, retrieve information more quickly, and streamline collaboration—all without needing to leave Slack’s interface.
At the core of this upgrade is a new enterprise search tool that can scan conversations, files, PDFs, images, and connected third-party apps such as Google Drive, Jira, and Microsoft Teams. Users can now instantly access answers using natural language queries, transforming scattered information into easy-to-find insights. Whether searching for past project details or tracing document histories, Slack’s new search functionality simplifies knowledge discovery.
“AI is supposed to simplify work, but too often it just creates friction. With Slack, we’re building AI that actually makes users more productive by embedding it directly into the platform they already know and love, right in their flow of work. Combined with the power of digital labor with AI agents, Slack’s work operating system becomes more intuitive, intelligent, and ready for whatever teams need next,” said Shalini Agarwal, VP of Slack Product at Salesforce.
Additional features include AI-powered writing assistance within Slack Canvas, which can summarize threads, generate structured updates, and refine rough notes into polished project briefs. Users can customize writing tone and reorganize content based on preferences. During Slack Huddles, the AI tool can automatically generate transcripts, action items, and summaries to enhance meeting efficiency.
Slack has also introduced message-level insights that provide quick explanations for jargon or acronyms based on workspace-specific language. If a message contains a request or task, Slack automatically creates a clear action item to help users respond promptly without digging through lengthy threads.
Upcoming enhancements include AI-generated profile summaries and translations, facilitating better communication and understanding across cross-functional and multilingual teams.
The platform’s redesigned Shortcuts experience now features intelligent automation powered by Apple’s Intelligence model and Private Cloud Compute. Users can trigger smart workflows via icons, voice commands, or gestures, such as automatically comparing lecture notes with audio transcripts to fill in missing information.
Rahul Sharma, Vice President – Sales, Salesforce India, remarked, “As Indian enterprises embrace AI to drive scale and speed, the real edge lies in making AI work where work actually happens. That’s what Slack delivers – AI that’s intuitive, secure, and embedded directly in the flow of work… It’s seamless, secure, and built for how teams work today – this is AI that actually works for you.”
Slack is also simplifying navigation with a unified files view that consolidates canvases, lists, and shared documents, enhancing accessibility for expanding teams.
On the security front, Slack ensures that customer data is not used to train AI models, with all AI functions adhering to existing user permissions and enterprise-grade standards, including FedRAMP and data residency requirements.
These AI capabilities are available across Slack’s paid plans: Pro users receive basic summaries, Business+ includes enhanced search and automation, and Enterprise+ offers full AI integration with advanced governance controls.
