SBI Life Appoints Vishal Bhatia as Chief Information Technology and Digital Officer
SBI Life Insurance Co. Ltd. has appointed Vishal Bhatia as its new Chief Information Technology and Digital Officer (CIDO), reinforcing its commitment to accelerating digital transformation and enhancing technology-driven initiatives. The move reflects the insurer’s strategic focus on building a robust digital-first ecosystem for its more than 10 crore customers.

Bhatia brings over 24 years of experience in the BFSI sector, with deep expertise in cloud platforms, AI innovation, fintech collaboration, and customer-focused product development. His extensive background positions him to lead SBI Life’s technology roadmap at a time when the insurance industry is undergoing rapid digitisation.

Before joining SBI Life, Bhatia served as Chief Digital Officer at Canara Bank, where he successfully led large-scale digitisation programmes that earned the bank top rankings from the Ministry of Electronics and IT for three consecutive years. His earlier roles include CTO at Kotak Cherry, where he shaped digital investment infrastructure, building IT systems for IDFC First Bank during its early growth phase, and managing core banking operations at Societe Generale and Infosys. His career spans leadership roles across India, Europe, and Turkey, giving him a global perspective on financial technology transformation.

At SBI Life, Bhatia will be responsible for spearheading next-generation insurance technology adoption and innovation across distribution, customer servicing, and claims management. His experience in API integration, cloud strategy, and AI-powered analytics is expected to significantly enhance the insurer’s ability to deliver personalised and seamless experiences.

Industry experts note that his appointment aligns with SBI Life’s long-term vision of combining digital innovation with operational excellence and compliance. The company aims to strengthen its position in an increasingly competitive and tech-driven insurance market by offering secure, efficient, and customer-centric solutions.
