Google completes $32 billion acquisition of cloud security firm Wiz

Google has finalized its $32 billion acquisition of Wiz, marking the largest takeover in the company’s history. The deal brings the fast-growing cybersecurity startup under Google’s cloud division and is aimed at strengthening the company’s capabilities in cloud and AI security. The acquisition was first announced in March 2025 and officially closed after receiving regulatory approvals in the United States and the European Union.

Wiz is a cloud cybersecurity platform that helps organizations identify vulnerabilities and protect data across multiple cloud environments. Its technology scans cloud infrastructure to detect risks that could allow cyber attackers to gain access to sensitive systems or information. The platform is widely used by enterprises to monitor and secure workloads running across different cloud providers.

Following the acquisition, Wiz will become part of Google Cloud but will continue operating with its own brand and product offerings. The company has also confirmed that its security services will remain compatible with competing cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud. This multi-cloud approach is intended to ensure that Wiz continues serving organizations regardless of which cloud provider they use.

Google expects the acquisition to significantly enhance its cybersecurity capabilities at a time when more businesses and governments are moving critical operations to cloud platforms. With the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure, protecting data and systems from cyber threats has become a growing priority for organizations worldwide. The integration of Wiz’s technology is expected to strengthen Google Cloud’s ability to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber-attacks more effectively.

Industry analysts say the deal reflects the increasing importance of cybersecurity in the era of cloud computing and AI. As companies adopt complex multi-cloud environments, security solutions that can protect applications and data across different platforms are becoming essential. Wiz’s tools are designed to provide a unified view of risks across cloud systems, helping organizations manage security more efficiently.

The acquisition also highlights Google’s broader strategy to compete more aggressively in the enterprise cloud market. While Google Cloud has been growing steadily, it still trails competitors such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure in global market share. By integrating Wiz’s advanced security technology, Google aims to attract more enterprise customers looking for strong cloud protection tools.

Wiz, founded in 2020 by cybersecurity entrepreneurs including Assaf Rappaport, has experienced rapid growth since its launch. The startup quickly gained popularity among large enterprises and reportedly surpassed $1 billion in annual recurring revenue in 2025, making it one of the fastest-growing companies in the cybersecurity sector.

The completion of the deal signals continued consolidation in the cloud and cybersecurity industries, where major technology companies are investing heavily to secure digital infrastructure. As organizations increasingly rely on cloud platforms and AI-driven systems, the demand for integrated security solutions is expected to continue rising.

With Wiz now part of Google Cloud, the combined companies aim to develop a unified cloud security platform that can protect modern digital environments while enabling organizations to innovate with confidence in the rapidly evolving AI era.
