BharatPe strengthens leadership with Himanshu Verma appointment to scale POS business

Indian fintech firm BharatPe has announced the appointment of Himanshu Verma as the Head of its Point-of-Sale (POS) business, effective immediately. The move comes as the company sharpens its focus on expanding its offline payments ecosystem and strengthening its merchant network across the country.

In his new role, Verma will be responsible for driving merchant adoption, strengthening distribution channels, and scaling BharatPe’s POS operations. The company is increasingly prioritizing offline payment infrastructure as part of its broader strategy to deepen its presence among small merchants and retail businesses in India.

Verma brings over 20 years of experience across the digital payments, telecom, and consumer technology sectors. His expertise spans channel sales and distribution, go-to-market strategy, UPI payments, POS and EDC acquisitions, as well as merchant onboarding and ecosystem development. His appointment is expected to play a key role in accelerating BharatPe’s growth in the offline payments segment.

Prior to joining BharatPe, Verma held leadership roles at several major organizations, including Pine Labs, Freecharge, Bharti Airtel, Samsung India, Vodafone, and Indepay Networks. In his most recent position at Pine Labs, he served as Senior Director and National Business Head for the Soundbox (Mini) segment, where he led the product’s incubation, launch, and nationwide scale-up.

At BharatPe, Verma will report directly to CEO Nalin Negi. Commenting on the appointment, Negi highlighted that Verma’s experience in scaling large payment businesses and executing growth strategies would be critical in strengthening the company’s POS portfolio and expanding its merchant footprint.

The appointment comes at a time when offline payments are emerging as a key growth driver within India’s digital payments ecosystem. While UPI continues to dominate digital transactions, fintech companies are increasingly investing in POS infrastructure to capture transactions from physical retail environments and enhance merchant engagement.

BharatPe has built a significant presence in the merchant payments space, with millions of merchants across hundreds of cities and a strong UPI-led transaction base. Its POS business, which processes substantial annual transaction volumes across a large network of devices, is expected to play a crucial role in the company’s next phase of expansion.

Industry observers note that leadership appointments like this reflect a broader shift in fintech strategy, where companies are moving beyond digital-only models to create integrated online and offline payment ecosystems. Strengthening POS capabilities allows firms like BharatPe to offer end-to-end payment solutions and deepen their relationship with merchants.

As competition intensifies in India’s fintech landscape, BharatPe’s focus on offline payments and merchant-centric solutions is likely to be a key differentiator. With Verma at the helm of its POS division, the company aims to accelerate adoption, expand distribution, and reinforce its position in the rapidly evolving digital payments market.
