Samsung Electronics is in discussions with Mistral AI to explore potential collaboration around advanced memory technologies and AI chip supply chains.
The discussions gained momentum following a recent meeting between Arthur Mensch and Jeon Young-hyun at Samsung’s Hwaseong semiconductor campus. The conversations focused on opportunities across next-generation memory solutions and strengthening cooperation within the AI hardware ecosystem.
Mensch’s visit to South Korea coincided with the official visit of Emmanuel Macron, who held bilateral discussions with Lee Jae-myung, highlighting the growing importance of international collaboration in artificial intelligence and semiconductor technologies.
Often positioned as Europe’s alternative to OpenAI, Mistral AI is actively working to secure reliable semiconductor supply chains to support the scaling of its large language model, Mistral Large, and broader AI infrastructure ambitions.
Industry observers view the engagement with Samsung as a strategic move by Mistral AI to strengthen its access to advanced memory chips, which are critical for training and deploying high-performance AI models. The discussions also reflect the increasing convergence between AI developers and semiconductor manufacturers as demand for AI computing power continues to surge globally.
