
Google has introduced a new AI-powered dictation application called “Google AI Edge Eloquent” on iOS, marking a notable step toward on-device artificial intelligence. The release was carried out without a formal announcement, suggesting a low-key strategy to test user adoption in the growing productivity tools segment.
The app is available as a free download and begins functioning once users install its speech recognition models based on Google’s lightweight Gemma framework. Unlike traditional dictation tools that rely heavily on internet connectivity, this application is designed to operate primarily on-device, enabling users to dictate text even without an active internet connection.
As users speak, the app generates real-time transcriptions and refines them automatically. It removes filler words such as “um” and “uh” and restructures speech into cleaner, more polished text. According to the app’s description, “Google AI Edge Eloquent is an advanced dictation app engineered to bridge the gap between natural speech and professional, ready-to-use text.”
The platform also offers multiple formatting options, including “Key points,” “Formal,” “Short,” and “Long,” allowing users to tailor the output based on their needs. In addition, it provides features such as transcription history, search functionality, word count tracking, and speech speed insights.
While the app prioritizes offline processing, users can enable a cloud-based mode that leverages Google’s Gemini models for enhanced text refinement. It also supports customization through user-defined vocabulary and can integrate specific terms or jargon, including those sourced from Gmail, to improve accuracy.
