Alibaba Group has established a new technology committee led by its CEO Eddie Wu, marking a significant organizational shift aimed at strengthening its artificial intelligence strategy. The move comes as the company intensifies its focus on AI to stay competitive in an increasingly crowded global technology landscape.
The newly formed committee will serve as the highest-level decision-making body for technology and AI initiatives within the company. By placing the group under direct leadership of CEO Eddie Wu, Alibaba is signaling the strategic importance of AI in its long-term vision and ensuring tighter coordination across its various technology divisions.
As part of the restructuring, several senior executives have been assigned key roles within the committee. Zhou Jingren has been appointed as chief AI architect, responsible for overseeing the company’s AI model development strategy. Meanwhile, Wu Zeming will focus on business technology and AI inference platforms, while Li Feifei has been tasked with leading cloud technology and AI infrastructure within Alibaba Cloud.
In addition to leadership changes, Alibaba has reorganized its internal AI units to streamline operations. The company has upgraded its Tongyi Laboratory, which develops the Qwen series of large language models, into a dedicated business unit. This move is intended to accelerate the development and commercialization of AI models while aligning research efforts more closely with business applications.
The restructuring reflects Alibaba’s broader shift toward an “AI-first” strategy, where artificial intelligence is positioned at the core of its business operations.
