Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is set to launch a major artificial intelligence infrastructure project by laying the foundation stone for a Google-backed AI data centre in Visakhapatnam. Scheduled for April 28, the initiative marks one of the largest technology investments in India and is expected to significantly boost the country’s digital capabilities.
The project, valued at around $15 billion, will be developed as a hyperscale AI data centre with a planned capacity of 1 gigawatt. Once operational, it will be among the largest AI data facilities in the country, providing advanced cloud computing infrastructure and large-scale data storage to support growing demand for artificial intelligence applications.
The facility will be in Tarluvada near Visakhapatnam and is expected to transform the coastal city into a key technology hub and an AI gateway for Asia. Officials believe the project will play a crucial role in strengthening India’s position in the global digital economy while attracting further investments from international technology firms.
Beyond infrastructure, the data centre is expected to generate significant economic benefits, including job creation in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud operations, cybersecurity, and data science. The development is also likely to stimulate growth in allied sectors like power systems, networking, and cooling technologies, creating a broader ecosystem around AI and digital services.
The initiative is part of Andhra Pradesh’s long-term vision to build a multi-gigawatt digital ecosystem with a total capacity target of around 6.5 gigawatts. By focusing on large-scale AI infrastructure and investor-friendly policies, the state aims to position itself as a major data and technology hub, reinforcing its role in India’s expanding digital and innovation landscape.
