US-based AI startup Cognition has chosen Singapore as its Asia-Pacific headquarters, marking a significant step in its global expansion strategy as demand for AI-powered software development tools accelerates. The move positions the city-state as a central hub for the company’s regional leadership, operations, and growth across key markets.
The decision comes shortly after Cognition’s entry into the region through Japan and reflects its broader push to tap into Asia’s rapidly growing enterprise AI adoption. From Singapore, the company will oversee operations across Southeast Asia as well as major markets including Australia, India, and South Korea, strengthening its presence in high-growth technology ecosystems.
Cognition is known for developing advanced AI tools for software engineering, particularly its flagship system Devin, which can autonomously handle complex coding, debugging, and deployment tasks. The company’s platform is increasingly being adopted by enterprises to accelerate development cycles, improve code quality, and automate routine engineering workflows.
As part of its expansion, the company plans to establish a new office in Singapore’s central business district and build a regional team over the next two years. Hiring will focus on roles across engineering, operations, product development, marketing, and sales, supporting enterprise customers throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
The expansion is further supported by Cognition’s acquisition of Singapore-based AI startup Havana, whose team will be integrated into regional operations to strengthen local engineering and go-to-market capabilities. The move underscores Singapore’s growing importance as a hub for AI innovation, with strong government support, a skilled talent pool, and increasing enterprise adoption driving global companies to establish a presence in the region.
