Apple has introduced two new health-focused features for users in India, expanding its efforts in preventive healthcare technology and wellness monitoring. On May 21, the company officially rolled out sleep apnea notifications for Apple Watch users and a clinically validated Hearing Test feature for AirPods Pro users in the country.
The newly launched features are designed to help users monitor potential health concerns from their homes using Apple’s wearable ecosystem. With the sleep apnea notification feature, compatible Apple Watch models can analyse breathing patterns during sleep and alert users if signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea are detected over time. The condition, which often goes undiagnosed, can lead to long-term health complications if left untreated.
Apple stated that the feature uses advanced sensors and machine learning algorithms to track breathing disturbances during sleep. Users can also access detailed sleep-related data through the Health app on their iPhones, allowing them to review trends and generate reports for healthcare professionals if required.
In addition to sleep monitoring, Apple has also introduced a Hearing Test feature for compatible AirPods Pro users in India. The company said the clinically validated tool allows users to check their hearing levels using their AirPods and an iPhone or iPad. The test is designed to provide users with insights into their hearing ability in a simple and accessible manner without visiting a clinic initially.
The hearing assessment process takes only a few minutes and is intended to help identify early signs of hearing loss. Based on the results, users may receive recommendations to seek further medical advice if necessary. Apple said the feature has been developed using clinical-grade standards to ensure accuracy and reliability for everyday users.
“At Apple, we believe technology should empower people to take control of their health, and that starts with giving users tools to detect conditions they may not even know they have,” said Sumbul Desai.
The launch of these features in India reflects Apple’s broader strategy of integrating healthcare capabilities into its consumer devices. Over the past few years, the company has increasingly focused on health and wellness technologies through products such as the Apple Watch and AirPods, positioning them as tools that go beyond communication and entertainment.
