Axis Bank has appointed Namrata Dubashi as its Artificial Intelligence Officer, becoming one of the early Indian banks to establish a dedicated leadership role focused exclusively on artificial intelligence as competition around AI adoption intensifies across the country’s banking sector.
Dubashi joins Axis Bank after spending nearly two decades at McKinsey & Company, where she advised organizations on technology-driven transformation, digital modernization, operational strategy, and innovation-led business initiatives across industries. Her appointment reflects the growing importance of AI-led transformation in India’s financial services ecosystem as banks increasingly focus on automation, intelligent decision-making, and data-driven customer engagement.
In her new role, Dubashi will report to Executive Director Subrat Mohanty and lead the bank’s enterprise-wide AI strategy and execution initiatives. She will oversee a team of approximately 50 specialists responsible for deploying artificial intelligence capabilities across key banking functions including customer experience, risk management, loan assessment, fraud detection, and operational efficiency.
The appointment comes at a time when banks across India are accelerating investments in AI, machine learning, predictive analytics, and automation technologies to strengthen digital banking services and improve operational performance. Financial institutions are increasingly leveraging AI to streamline processes, enhance fraud monitoring systems, improve credit evaluation models, and deliver more personalized customer experiences across digital platforms.
Axis Bank’s move to create a dedicated AI leadership role also aligns with its broader technology-led growth strategy as the bank continues expanding its digital capabilities across retail banking, corporate banking, MSME services, agricultural banking, and wealth management operations.
