Amit Kalra Joins Zurich Insurance to Lead Global Capability Centres

India — Zurich Insurance has appointed Amit Kalra to lead its Global Capability Centres (GCCs), including the establishment of the company’s new Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad. The appointment reflects Zurich’s continued investment in expanding its global technology and operations footprint while building AI-native capabilities to support its long-term digital transformation strategy.

In his new role, Kalra will oversee Zurich’s Global Capability Centre strategy, leading the development and scaling of global engineering, data, artificial intelligence, digital, and business capabilities. A key part of his mandate includes establishing the company’s Hyderabad GCC, which will serve as an integral part of Zurich’s global enterprise, supporting innovation, technology development, and business transformation across the insurer’s worldwide operations.

Announcing the move in a LinkedIn post, Kalra said he was excited to join Zurich Insurance and lead its Global Capability Centres while building AI-native capabilities from the ground up at the new Hyderabad centre. He noted that the centre will bring together engineering, data, AI, and business expertise to help shape the future of insurance through innovation and technology.

Kalra brings extensive leadership experience spanning insurance, reinsurance, financial services, Global Capability Centres, enterprise transformation, and technology operations. Throughout his career, he has led large-scale GCC build-outs, operational transformation, business scaling, and strategic initiatives across global organizations. He is also an Independent Board Director and has actively contributed to industry, academia, and the broader GCC ecosystem.

The appointment comes as global insurers increasingly expand their India-based GCCs to strengthen capabilities in artificial intelligence, cloud engineering, data analytics, cybersecurity, automation, and digital product development. Hyderabad has emerged as a preferred destination for global capability centres due to its mature technology ecosystem, skilled talent pool, and growing AI and engineering capabilities.
