Bengaluru, India — Fintech major PhonePehas elevated Srijon Biswasto Chief Technology Officer (CTO), strengthening its engineering leadership as the company continues to expand beyond digital payments into a broader portfolio of financial services.
Biswas, who has been with PhonePe since 2016, most recently served as Head of Engineering – Financial Services. In his new role, he will lead the company’s engineering organisation, driving technology strategy, platform scalability, engineering execution, and innovation across PhonePe’s growing portfolio of payments, insurance, lending, wealth management, and other financial services.
As part of the leadership transition, Rahul Chari, PhonePe’s co-founder and former CTO, has been appointed Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO). In his expanded role, Chari will continue to lead the company’s technology and product organisations while also taking responsibility for trust and safety, data science and analytics, customer experience, and strategic initiatives. Biswas will continue to report to Chari.
The leadership restructuring reflects PhonePe’s continued investment in strengthening its technology organisation as it scales its platform and expands into new financial services categories. With millions of users and an expanding portfolio of digital financial products, the company is enhancing its engineering capabilities to support increasing transaction volumes, improve platform reliability, and accelerate product innovation.
PhonePe has steadily diversified beyond its core digital payments business, building offerings across insurance distribution, lending, wealth management, stockbroking, and merchant services. As the company broadens its fintech ecosystem, technology leadership has become increasingly important in supporting secure, scalable, and AI-enabled digital financial services.
The organisational changes also come as PhonePe continues to focus on long-term growth. The Walmart-backed fintech company had earlier paused its initial public offering (IPO) plans amid market conditions and has since continued investing in product development, technology infrastructure, and new business verticals.
The elevation of Biswas and the expanded responsibilities for Chari underscore PhonePe’s strategy of creating a stronger technology and product leadership structure capable of supporting the company’s next phase of growth across India’s rapidly evolving digital financial services ecosystem.
PhonePe is one of India’s leading fintech platforms, offering digital payments, merchant solutions, insurance, lending, wealth management, stockbroking, and other financial services. Backed by Walmart, the company serves hundreds of millions of users and millions of merchants, leveraging technology, data, and digital infrastructure to expand financial inclusion and drive innovation across India’s fintech ecosystem.
