Anthropic is reportedly in discussions to acquire AI startup Decart AI for approximately $6 billion, in a potential transaction that would become the Claude maker’s largest known acquisition if completed. The discussions are still ongoing, and the deal could fall through, according to people familiar with the matter.
Decart has developed software designed to improve the efficiency of chips used for AI workloads, potentially reducing the cost of training artificial intelligence models. The technology could help Anthropic make better use of its existing computing infrastructure as demand for its AI products continues to increase.
Decart Team Could Join Anthropic
As part of the potential transaction, Decart’s team is expected to join Anthropic’s inference and performance organisation, according to a person familiar with the discussions.
Decart also has a focus on generative video and world models, with technology capable of modifying live video feeds in real time. This work could provide Anthropic with additional infrastructure and technical expertise as it expands its AI capabilities.
Decart Recently Raised $300 Million
The potential acquisition comes only months after Decart announced a $300 million funding round in May, led by Radical Ventures, with participation from Nvidia, Atreides Management, Valor Equity Partners and Adobe Ventures.
Existing investors including Sequoia Capital, Benchmark and Zeev Ventures also participated. The funding valued Decart at nearly $4 billion, up from its reported valuation of $3.1 billion in August 2025.
Decart was founded in 2023 by Israeli engineers Dean and Orian Leitersdorf and Moshe Shalev.
Anthropic Steps Up Computing Strategy
The potential deal comes as Anthropic continues to invest heavily in computing infrastructure to develop new AI products and meet growing customer demand.
Anthropic and rival AI companies are committing tens of billions of dollars toward data-centre infrastructure and advanced computing capacity. The cost of building and operating these systems has become a major consideration as AI companies expand their models and prepare for potential public-market debuts.
If completed, the Decart acquisition would represent a significant move for Anthropic, which has historically been less active in large acquisitions. It would also strengthen the company’s focus on AI inference performance, computing efficiency and infrastructure optimisation at a time when demand for advanced AI systems continues to rise.
