Cognition Reportedly Eyes $40 Billion Valuation in Fresh Funding Talks

Cognition, the AI startup behind the Devin coding agent, is reportedly in early discussions to raise fresh funding at a valuation of $40 billion or more, according to recent reports. If completed at that level, the potential round would represent a substantial increase from the company’s latest $26 billion post-money valuation reached only a few months ago.

The company is reportedly considering a new financing round of more than $1 billion, although discussions are still at an early stage and the terms could change or the transaction may not materialise.

Valuation Rises Sharply

Cognition completed its previous major financing in May 2026, raising more than $1 billion at a $25 billion pre-money valuation, giving the company a $26 billion post-money valuation. That round marked a significant increase from its earlier valuation and reflected growing investor interest in AI-powered software development.

A potential valuation of $40 billion or more would put Cognition more than 50% above its latest post-money valuation, highlighting the rapid repricing of leading AI companies as investors continue to assess the commercial potential of AI agents.

Devin Drives Cognition’s Growth

Cognition is best known for Devin, its AI-powered software development agent designed to perform coding and related software-engineering tasks.

The company’s progress has placed it among the startups benefiting from growing demand for AI systems that can perform increasingly complex technical work rather than simply assist developers with individual tasks.

Funding Discussions Remain Unconfirmed

The reported $40 billion figure should not be treated as Cognition’s current confirmed valuation. It represents a potential valuation being discussed with investors as part of a possible new funding round.

The final amount raised, valuation and investor participation could therefore differ if negotiations progress. For now, the discussions underline the continuing investor appetite for AI companies building autonomous software and coding agents.
