OpenAI has appointed Prabhjeet Singh as Managing Director for India

OpenAI has appointed Prabhjeet Singh as Managing Director for India, strengthening its senior leadership team as the artificial intelligence company continues to expand its presence in the Indian market.

In his new role, Singh will lead OpenAI’s consumer and enterprise business in India, while also overseeing partnerships, regulatory engagement and the company’s overall operations in the country. He will report to Kiran Mani, Managing Director for Asia Pacific.

Singh joins OpenAI after serving as President of Uber India and South Asia, where he held a senior leadership position overseeing the company’s business in the region. His move to OpenAI brings extensive experience in managing large-scale businesses, developing partnerships and navigating the complexities of the Indian market.

At OpenAI, Singh’s mandate will extend across both consumer and enterprise segments. He will be responsible for supporting the company’s business operations while developing strategic partnerships and engaging with regulators and other stakeholders as AI adoption continues to expand across India.

His appointment comes as India becomes an increasingly important market for artificial intelligence, with businesses, institutions and the public sector exploring the adoption of AI technologies. OpenAI has been expanding its engagement with the Indian ecosystem, and Singh’s role will cover the company’s broader operations and market development in the country.

According to reports, Singh is also expected to support the expansion of strategic partnerships and help accelerate AI adoption across businesses, institutions and the public sector. His responsibilities will therefore span commercial growth as well as OpenAI’s engagement with the wider Indian AI ecosystem.

Before joining OpenAI, Singh spent more than a decade with Uber and rose to become President of Uber India and South Asia. His leadership experience at Uber provided exposure to business operations, market expansion and partnerships in one of the company’s key markets.

The appointment makes Singh OpenAI’s senior leader for India, giving him responsibility for the company’s consumer and enterprise activities as well as its partnerships, regulatory engagement and overall operations in the country.

Singh’s appointment was announced in June 2026, with his joining OpenAI scheduled for September. Recent reports confirm that he has now taken up the role and is leading the India business.

With Singh taking charge as Managing Director for India, OpenAI is placing dedicated senior leadership around its operations in the country. His experience in scaling businesses and managing a large technology platform in India will be relevant to the company’s efforts to expand consumer and enterprise adoption while building partnerships and engaging with policymakers.
