Neo4j has strengthened its leadership team in India with the appointment of Vimal Venkatram as Regional Vice President and Country Manager for India. Venkatram announced his move in a LinkedIn post, saying he is joining the company to contribute to its India growth journey and work closely with Neo4j’s existing leadership and India team. His appointment comes as enterprises increasingly look to connect fragmented data environments and build AI systems that can operate with greater context and accuracy.
In his new role, Venkatram will focus on Neo4j’s growth and market expansion in India. He will work alongside Ish Thukral, Suhail Gulzar and the wider India team as the company expands adoption of graph technology, connected data and AI-driven applications. Neo4j had already been investing in the Indian market, including the appointment of Ish Thukral as General Manager for India and SAARC in 2025. The company said that move was aimed at strengthening customer engagement and building its partner ecosystem across the region.
Venkatram joins Neo4j after spending time at Speedata, where he worked on the company’s efforts around accelerated analytics and purpose-built computing for data-intensive workloads. Speedata had previously announced his arrival to help expand its accelerated analytics business across the Asia-Pacific and Japan markets. His experience also includes senior leadership roles at Snowflake, MuleSoft, Oracle and Citrix, giving him extensive exposure to enterprise data, cloud, analytics and database technologies.
Before Speedata, Venkatram was associated with Snowflake, where he served as Country Manager for India. In that role, he was responsible for growing the company’s business in the Indian market and worked across areas including data management and analytics. Earlier, he led retail and manufacturing businesses for MuleSoft, a Salesforce company, across Southeast Asia and also held senior positions at Oracle and Citrix. His career spans more than 15 years in the technology industry, with a focus on enterprise data and technology solutions.
Venkatram’s move to Neo4j comes at an important point in the evolution of enterprise AI. In his announcement, he argued that India’s AI conversation is moving beyond foundation models, with fragmented and disconnected enterprise data emerging as a major challenge. Neo4j’s graph technology is designed to represent relationships between data points, helping organisations create a connected view of information that can be used for analytics, AI and decision-making.
The company has been increasingly positioning graph technology as a foundation for enterprise AI. Neo4j’s platform combines graph databases, vector search and knowledge graphs to provide contextual information to generative AI applications. Its GraphRAG approach allows AI systems to retrieve relationship-aware information from enterprise data, helping improve contextual accuracy, traceability and explainability.
Neo4j’s India strategy has also gained additional momentum following its acquisition of GraphAware. The acquisition, which closed on August 5, 2026, brought GraphAware’s intelligence-analysis capabilities into Neo4j and strengthened the company’s offering for government agencies and organisations requiring open standards, interoperability and greater control over their data. GraphAware operates as a standalone business unit within Neo4j under its existing leadership.
The acquisition is particularly relevant to India, where government and regulated organisations increasingly require AI systems that can work with sensitive and distributed data while maintaining control over where that information is stored. Neo4j has highlighted graph technology’s applications across areas such as fraud detection, cybersecurity, customer intelligence and public-sector data integration.
Venkatram’s appointment therefore adds an experienced enterprise-data and technology leader to Neo4j’s India leadership as the company seeks to expand its presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing AI and technology markets. With graph databases, knowledge graphs and GraphRAG becoming increasingly relevant to enterprise AI deployments, his mandate will place him at the intersection of Neo4j’s India growth ambitions and the country’s rapidly developing AI ecosystem.
