Ontario Teachers’ Makes Second Investment in Darwinbox as AI-Native HCM Expansion Accelerates

Teachers’ Venture Growth, the late-stage investment arm of Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, has made a follow-on investment in Hyderabad-founded human-capital management software company Darwinbox. The transaction represents the investor’s second commitment to the company following its initial investment in 2025.

The companies did not disclose the value or structure of the latest transaction. Separate deal reporting placed the investment at approximately $40 million, which would take Ontario Teachers’ cumulative investment in Darwinbox to about $80 million. That figure remains externally reported rather than officially confirmed. The earlier investment, completed in August 2025, was also valued at approximately $40 million and included a combination of primary and secondary capital at a blended valuation of roughly $1 billion.

Founded in 2015 by Jayant Paleti, Rohit Chennamaneni, Chaitanya Peddi and Vineet Singh, Darwinbox provides cloud-based software covering recruitment, employee management, payroll, talent development and other stages of the workforce lifecycle. The company now says its platform serves more than 1,400 organisations and 4.5 million employees globally.

Darwinbox reported a compound annual growth rate of 70% over the past five years, supported by business across India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the United States. The latest financing comes as the company increases its focus on North America, where established enterprise-software providers retain significant market share and large organisations typically require extensive integrations, compliance controls and implementation support.

Product development has increasingly centred on automation and embedded artificial intelligence. In August, Darwinbox introduced Cortex, an AI-native HCM platform designed to automate workflows, streamline HR operations and provide more personalised employee interactions. Visteon and healthcare technology company Transcarent were identified among the initial pilot customers.

Cortex represents a broader product-layer expansion rather than a standalone conversational interface. Darwinbox is positioning AI agents and automated workflows across the employee lifecycle, including routine HR requests, enterprise search and administrative processes. The company’s mobile-first architecture and existing base in markets with large, distributed workforces provide the operating foundation for that rollout.

Darius Vakil, managing director at Teachers’ Venture Growth, said the follow-on commitment reflected the investor’s continued confidence in Darwinbox’s management, product development and enterprise-market opportunity. He identified the launch of Cortex and the company’s North American expansion as important elements of its next growth phase.

The transaction adds growth capital at a point when Indian-origin enterprise-software companies are seeking to build larger international sales and implementation organisations while retaining substantial product and engineering operations in India.
