Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), OpenAI and technology group G42 have signed a multi-year partnership to introduce advanced artificial intelligence capabilities across ADNOC’s operations. The agreement was announced on November 2, 2026, during the ADIPEC energy conference in Abu Dhabi.
The partnership will make ADNOC the first energy company to deploy OpenAI’s frontier AI technology across its business operations. The initiative aims to connect operational, investment and commercial decisions across the energy value chain, covering activities from production and processing to refining, logistics, sales and trading.
The technology will use OpenAI’s GPT models and operate on computing infrastructure located in the United Arab Emirates. G42 will provide the sovereign AI infrastructure, while OpenAI will contribute its advanced models and ADNOC will bring its industrial data and operational expertise.
The initial deployment will focus on two major applications. The first involves field master planning, bringing together decades of information from thousands of wells, multiple reservoirs and hundreds of surface facilities. The system is expected to help prepare and optimise complex development plans in hours rather than months.
The second application will connect information across ADNOC’s integrated business operations. AI agents will assess crude oil supply, demand, prices and margins while evaluating the commercial and operational impact of decisions across the value chain.
The partnership will also build on ADNOC’s existing AI programme, which includes more than 200 AI applications and 70 robotics use cases deployed or under development. The company has rolled out ChatGPT Enterprise to more than 40,000 employees, with adoption exceeding 97%.
ADNOC and OpenAI will also work together to develop advanced AI solutions and equip the company’s workforce with the skills required to use the technology. The agreement includes collaboration on cybersecurity through OpenAI’s Daybreak Blue initiative, which is intended to help security teams identify vulnerabilities and protect critical energy infrastructure.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the partnership would combine advanced AI, sovereign infrastructure and industry expertise to help address complex challenges in the energy sector.
The agreement reflects Abu Dhabi’s wider efforts to expand AI deployment across strategic industries and strengthen its position in the global artificial intelligence ecosystem.
