Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited has appointed Tushar Vohra as its Chief AI and Transformation Officer, a role he took up in November 2026 in Mumbai. The appointment places a technology leader who has built products, run engineering at massive scale and founded companies at the centre of Zee’s next phase of growth, at a time when AI is reshaping how audiences discover, watch and enjoy content.
Tushar’s journey began in 2001 as a Senior Software Developer at Talisma in Bengaluru, an enterprise software company where, as he puts it, the engineering fundamentals were built. In 2004 he took the entrepreneurial route and founded Mastiff Tech, a consumer internet product company focused on online media, social networking, online retail and Web 2.0 products. Over six years it grew to a team of 150 engineers and product professionals and merged with Tricom India Ltd in 2010, where he stayed on in a leadership role to manage the transition of the team and client portfolio.
He went on to hold senior technology roles across education, e-commerce and digital media. These included VP Technology at Shiksha Infotech, VP Engineering at india.com, where he led technology for properties such as BollywoodLife and CricketCountry, and Head of Business Solutions at Naaptol, one of India’s early e-commerce and home-shopping platforms. In 2014 he founded Melimu.com, an EdTech platform for higher education in African universities and colleges, leading strategy, sales and operations across two continents.
Tushar first joined Zee in 2018 as Head of Development and Solutions, building and leading the engineering team during ZEE5’s critical growth phase. He owned development and solutions across the OTT platform, from streaming architecture and content delivery to scalability, and set up the engineering culture and practices that allowed fast feature delivery at scale.
In 2022 he moved to Jio, where he spent close to five years leading product, engineering and operations across five platforms. As Head of Engineering for JioCinema, he led the team through IPL 2023, when the platform reported a world record of 32 million concurrent viewers during the final, the highest ever for a live-streamed event. He also led engineering for JioTV and JioNews, handling massive concurrent usage during live events and breaking news, along with DRM migration and real-time delivery improvements.
Later, as Head of Product and Engineering for JioTV+ LiveTV and JioEducation, he worked on a connected TV platform reaching millions of households and an AI-powered learning platform for Indian schools, including an AI Lab that brings hands-on machine learning into classrooms. As JioCDN Chief Operating Officer, he ran operations for the content delivery network serving media, apps and live streams across India, covering capacity planning, performance SLAs and cost optimisation at petabyte scale. Alongside this, he drove an AI-native transformation across his teams, moving towards spec-driven, exploration-first, multi-agent engineering workflows.
Few leaders combine his mix of experience: a founder who has built and exited a company, an engineer who has handled record-breaking live streaming loads, and a product leader who has put AI to work in classrooms and living rooms. For Zee, which has both a large content library and a growing digital audience, that blend fits the role of Chief AI and Transformation Officer well. As entertainment moves towards personalised, AI-enhanced experiences, his return to Zee brings a leader who already knows the organisation and has seen what scale demands.
We congratulate Tushar Vohra on his appointment as Chief AI and Transformation Officer at Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited and wish him a rewarding journey ahead.
