Customer service may be on the brink of a massive transformation, and Abhi Kumar, a former Microsoft executive, is positioning himself at the forefront of this change. After leading Microsoft’s strategy for emerging markets and overseeing more than $1.2 billion in investments through the company’s venture arm M12—supporting 120 startups—Kumar launched Voicing AI in 2024 with a bold mission: “to make AI agents the new interface of enterprise operations.”

Voicing AI’s synthetic agents are designed to do far more than just answer customer queries. They conduct natural, human-like conversations across multiple channels—including voice calls, emails, and chat—and are capable of resolving routine issues while intelligently escalating complex problems to human agents. According to Kumar, by March 2024, the technology had reached a significant milestone: “these agents passed the Turing test in more than 90% of interactions.”

The company has quickly gained traction, backed by a $6 million investment from LTIMindtree. What sets Voicing AI apart in the crowded landscape of conversational AI—which includes players like Gupshup, Yellow.ai, and RevRag.AI—is its ability to rapidly deploy customizable, enterprise-ready solutions. It offers support in over 20 languages, combining human-like dialogue with open-source tools tailored to specific enterprise workflows.

Kumar believes that success in the agentic AI race won’t depend solely on cutting-edge technology but on how quickly and effectively solutions can be implemented in real-world business environments. “The edge won’t come from technology alone but from fast deployment and real-world integration,” he emphasizes.

India, with its scale, linguistic diversity, and operational complexity, serves as the ultimate test bed for Voicing AI’s capabilities. Yet the global potential is immense. As Kumar points out, the financial case is compelling—replacing a single customer support role that costs around $35,000 annually can translate into significant savings and operational efficiency for businesses worldwide.
