Airbus Appoints Jürgen Westermeier as President and MD for India and South Asia

Airbus has announced a major leadership transition, naming Jürgen Westermeier, the company’s current Chief Procurement Officer, as the new President and Managing Director for India and South Asia, effective September 1, 2025. He will replace Rémi Maillard, who is set to assume a broader role leading the technology department across the Airbus Group.

This move is part of a broader executive reshuffle at Airbus, marking the second major leadership change in recent months. In May, Rémi Maillard transitioned to head the group’s technology operations, while Sabine Klauke, formerly the Chief Technology Officer, was appointed to lead digital design and manufacturing initiatives within Airbus’ commercial aircraft division. Additionally, Benoît Schultz, currently Head of Airbus in Canada, will step into Westermeier’s procurement role starting October 1.

Westermeier joined Airbus in September 2020 after a successful 22-year career with BMW Group, where he held several senior leadership roles, including President of BMW China Services. With academic training in industrial engineering and computer science, he brings strong expertise in global procurement, supplier relationship management, and strategic operations—experience that positions him well to steer Airbus’ operations in a rapidly evolving regional market.

In his new capacity, Westermeier will lead the company’s commercial aircraft, helicopters, and defence business across India and South Asia. A core focus of his mandate will be to advance Airbus’ ‘Make in India’ agenda, working to deepen the country’s integration into the company’s global supply chain.

“A key part of his mandate includes driving the company’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, aiming to deepen the country’s integration into Airbus’ global supply chain.”

His leadership comes at a critical juncture, as Airbus reported 306 commercial aircraft deliveries in the first half of 2025—a slight dip from 323 deliveries during the same period last year. This performance underscores the importance of regional markets like India in supporting Airbus’ global growth and supply chain resilience.
