AMD has announced the acquisition of Mountain View–based artificial intelligence startup MK1, in a move that underscores its commitment to advancing AI performance, efficiency, and scalability across its product ecosystem. The deal marks a strategic step in AMD’s broader plan to enhance its enterprise AI software stack and accelerate next-generation reasoning and inference capabilities.
MK1, known for its high-speed inference and reasoning technologies, has developed cutting-edge AI systems optimized for large-scale deployments. Its flagship Flywheel technology currently processes over 1 trillion tokens daily, highlighting the company’s prowess in managing complex workloads with speed and precision.
Following the acquisition, the MK1 team will integrate into the AMD Artificial Intelligence Group, where their expertise will contribute to optimizing AMD’s AI software and hardware integration. MK1’s Flywheel and comprehension engines are specifically engineered to leverage the memory architecture of AMD’s Instinct GPUs—allowing for more accurate, cost-efficient, and traceable reasoning at scale. This synergy is expected to play a crucial role in powering advanced enterprise AI solutions that demand reliability and transparency.
By combining MK1’s software-driven innovation with AMD’s high-performance compute technologies, the chipmaker aims to create a more unified AI platform for businesses. The partnership is expected to open new opportunities in areas such as automation, intelligent analytics, and large-scale AI reasoning systems.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the MK1 team to AMD as we advance the future of AI together,” the company said in a statement, reaffirming its mission to make enterprise AI more accessible, efficient, and scalable.
The acquisition also signals AMD’s intent to compete more aggressively in the fast-evolving AI infrastructure landscape, where efficiency, inference speed, and power optimization have become major differentiators. As AI workloads become increasingly complex, AMD’s integration of MK1’s technologies could enhance its ability to deliver end-to-end solutions—spanning from data center GPUs to specialized enterprise software.
With MK1’s inclusion, AMD is positioning itself as a key enabler of the next wave of enterprise AI transformation, bringing together powerful computing and intelligent software to fuel innovation at scale.
