Anthropic has named Irina Ghose as Managing Director of India, marking a significant milestone as the AI research and safety company prepares to open its first office in the country. The appointment underscores Anthropic’s strategic focus on India as a critical market for enterprise AI adoption, policy engagement, and talent development, at a time when Indian organizations are rapidly moving from pilot projects to scaled, real-world AI deployments.
Ghose brings more than three decades of experience in building and scaling technology businesses across India. Most recently, she served as Managing Director at Microsoft India, where she played a central role in driving enterprise AI adoption across sectors such as banking and financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and government. During her tenure, she was known for building high-impact leadership teams, strengthening partner ecosystems, and advancing future-ready technology capabilities aligned with India’s digital transformation agenda.
Commenting on her new role, Ghose said, “India has a real opportunity to shape how AI is built and deployed at scale,” Ghose said. “Indian organizations are moving beyond experimentation toward applied AI, where trust, safety, and long-term impact matter as much as innovation. Anthropic’s mission resonates with my belief that technology should empower people, expand access, and create lasting value across India’s diverse languages and communities.”
At Anthropic, Ghose will lead the company’s India strategy as it deepens its presence across both public and private sectors. The India team is expected to work closely with policymakers, academic institutions, startups, and large enterprises to support responsible AI adoption, while also contributing to Anthropic’s global research and safety efforts.
Chris Ciauri, Managing Director of International at Anthropic, highlighted the strategic importance of the appointment, stating, “Irina’s expertise in scaling technology businesses and driving enterprise transformation makes her the ideal leader as we expand. As we grow our teams and deepen engagement across India’s public and private sectors, Irina will ensure our approach is grounded in local insight and aligned with our mission.”
India already plays a pivotal role in Anthropic’s global footprint. The country is the second-largest market worldwide for Claude.ai, with nearly half of all usage concentrated on computer science and mathematical tasks. As Anthropic establishes its physical presence in India, the company aims to tap into this strong developer and enterprise base while reinforcing its commitment to safe, trustworthy, and impactful AI at scale.
