Anthropic has introduced a web-based version of its AI coding assistant, Claude Code, making it easier for developers to create, manage, and interact with AI-driven coding agents directly from their browsers. The new web interface—available to Claude Pro ($20/month) and Claude Max ($100–$200/month) subscribers—can be accessed via the claude.ai website under the “Code” tab or through the Claude iOS app.
This launch marks a significant expansion for Claude Code, which until now had been primarily available as a command-line interface (CLI) tool. By moving to the web, Anthropic aims to make its AI coding ecosystem more accessible and user-friendly, enabling developers to run coding agents in a wider range of environments. The company noted that Claude Code has seen a tenfold increase in users since May and now contributes to more than $500 million in annualized revenue.
Anthropic shared that roughly 90% of Claude Code’s own codebase was written by its AI models, highlighting the system’s ability to autonomously generate production-level code. The platform enables agentic code generation, allowing developers to oversee autonomous coding assistants that can manage tasks and workflows rather than relying on traditional, line-by-line code writing.
While the web version improves accessibility, Anthropic emphasized that the CLI remains the primary platform for advanced customization and intelligent features. Developers using the CLI can leverage deeper integrations, making it the preferred environment for more complex and large-scale projects.
The web launch comes as the AI coding space grows increasingly competitive, with major players such as GitHub Copilot, Google, OpenAI, and Cursor all racing to capture developer mindshare. While AI tools have proven effective at automating repetitive coding tasks, research suggests that developers working on complex projects sometimes spend additional time refining or correcting AI-generated code.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei remains optimistic about the long-term trajectory of AI in software development, predicting that AI could eventually write up to 90% of all code, though widespread industry adoption will likely take time.
With the new Claude Code web app, Anthropic is positioning itself at the forefront of the AI developer tools revolution, bridging the gap between intelligent automation and human-driven software innovation.
