Aptiv, the Irish-American global technology leader in the automotive sector, has officially launched its new Software, Advanced Safety & User Experience (AS&UX) Technical Centre in Chennai. The newly inaugurated 34,000 sq. ft. facility will focus on cutting-edge developments in software-defined vehicles, advanced safety systems, and in-vehicle user experience. Designed to accommodate up to 500 engineers by 2026, the centre represents a key part of Aptiv’s innovation strategy in India.
This Chennai facility becomes Aptiv’s fourth technical centre in India, further strengthening its footprint in the country. It features state-of-the-art laboratories and testing infrastructure to support the development of AI/ML-driven Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and in-cabin perception technologies.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key industry leaders, including Javed Khan, Executive Vice-President and President of AS&UX at Aptiv, and R Velusamy, President of Automotive Business (Designate) at Mahindra & Mahindra.
Commenting on the milestone, Javed Khan said:
“We are proud to expand our presence in India with the launch of our new technical centre in Chennai. This centre will strengthen our ability to localise AI/ML-powered ADAS and advanced interior sensing technologies for the Indian market, reflecting our confidence in India’s engineering talent and bringing us closer to our customers – so together, we can build a safer, smarter future here in India.”
The Chennai centre is expected to play a critical role in developing advanced ADAS perception solutions, intelligent in-cabin systems, and next-generation infotainment platforms. It will also contribute to Aptiv’s broader cloud-native architecture goals through integrated hardware, software, and edge capabilities, leveraging technology from Wind River, a key part of Aptiv’s ecosystem.
Currently, Aptiv employs over 13,000 people across India, with eight manufacturing units, four tech centres, and a tooling facility. The expansion into Chennai reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to India’s automotive innovation landscape and aligns with its mission to build intelligent, software-defined systems that shape the future of mobility globally.
