Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has signed a significant ₹572 crore agreement with the Indian Army to supply the Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System (IDDIS), a sophisticated indigenous counter-drone solution developed in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The IDDIS is designed to detect, track, and neutralize hostile unmanned aerial vehicles, offering a vital defence capability amid rising threats from drone warfare. BEL highlighted the strategic importance of the system, calling it “a critical layer in countering the evolving aerial threat landscape.”
In addition to IDDIS, the contract includes other high-end defence technologies such as Software Defined Radios (SDRs), artificial intelligence-based naval systems, and advanced communication tools — further underscoring BEL’s growing role in India’s drive for defence self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The deal follows the recent success of BEL’s Akashteer air defence system, which played a pivotal role during Operation Sindoor. Amid a barrage of UAVs and loitering munitions from Pakistan, Akashteer-enabled units intercepted multiple threats with high accuracy. BEL reported on X (formerly Twitter) that the system “exceeded operational expectations,” achieving zero casualties and minimal damage.
Akashteer, built under a ₹1,982 crore contract, creates a robust, real-time air defence network by integrating Army Air Defence (AD) units with advanced sensors and fire control systems.
With the induction of both IDDIS and Akashteer, BEL continues to solidify its position as a key player in modernizing India’s military infrastructure and enhancing national security with indigenous technologies.
