BITS Pilani has announced a major transformation in its approach to higher education, with Chancellor Kumar Mangalam Birla unveiling three bold initiatives that aim to significantly reshape the institution’s physical and digital presence. These include the creation of an AI+ innovation campus in Amaravati, a large-scale infrastructure upgrade under Project Vistaar, and the launch of BITS Pilani Digital, the institute’s proprietary EdTech platform.
The new AI+ campus in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, is poised to become a cutting-edge center for innovation and advanced learning. Spanning 35 acres, the campus will offer undergraduate twinning programs, joint doctoral degrees (cotutelle) with international universities, and master’s degrees in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, innovation, and strategy.
Designed as a smart campus, it will feature integrated IoT technologies, AI-powered services, immersive learning tools, and a hybrid model of instruction. The initiative includes a Rs.60 crore investment to upgrade undergraduate laboratories and is projected to raise student capacity from 18,700 to approximately 26,000 by the academic year 2030–31.
To support academic evolution, BITS Pilani will also introduce new interdisciplinary programs that align with changing global demands and industry needs.
Further enhancing its commitment to digital education, the institute has launched BITS Pilani Digital, a comprehensive EdTech platform that will provide learners with access to real-world projects, career support, and opportunities for campus immersion.
Vice Chancellor Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao emphasized the broader impact of the initiatives, stating, “These new initiatives reaffirm our vision to create an institution that is responsive to the world’s changing needs, deeply connected to industry, and driven by a spirit of purpose and excellence.”
The Rs.1,219 crore Project Vistaar will fund major infrastructure upgrades across campuses, helping modernize academic and research facilities.
Together, these strategic moves position BITS Pilani as a forward-thinking institution that blends robust physical expansion with cutting-edge digital innovation—preparing students for a rapidly evolving, AI-driven global landscape.
