Coromandel International Appoints Sharad Kalghatgi as VP – EHS to Strengthen Safety Sustainability and Operational Excellence

Coromandel International Limited, a flagship company of the Murugappa Group, has appointed Sharad Kalghatgi as Vice President – Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), marking a significant step in strengthening its sustainability and safety leadership. Bringing over twenty years of experience across global and Indian organisations, Kalghatgi’s background spans ESG strategy, operational excellence, process safety, engineering transformation and large-scale sustainability initiatives. Having worked with leading companies such as Shell, AstraZeneca, Mondelēz International, Cipla, UPL, Sajjan India Ltd, Ciba, Honeywell UOP and the Jubilant Bhartia Group, he joins Coromandel with a mandate to spearhead EHS and Sustainability programs and elevate the organisation’s governance standards. His expertise and exposure to global best practices are expected to bolster Coromandel’s long-term vision for responsible and sustainable growth.

Across his extensive career, Sharad has led high-impact EHS and Sustainability transformations across multiple regions and industries. His tenure at Shell included global HSE responsibilities, where he oversaw safety frameworks and risk mitigation processes across complex operations. At Mondelez International, he managed HSE functions across commercial and manufacturing units in the AMEA region, strengthening regional compliance and operational discipline. He has also driven enterprise-wide ESG and safety reforms at Cipla, UPL and the Jubilant Bhartia Group, focusing on harmonising systems, improving governance mechanisms and embedding sustainability into business strategy.

Kalghatgi’s deep expertise includes process safety management, asset integrity, reactive hazard assessment and the digitisation of EHS systems — capabilities that have enabled multiple organisations to minimise risk, enhance operational reliability and meet international compliance standards. His strategic understanding of stakeholder management, cultural transformation and global governance frameworks further strengthens his ability to guide Coromandel’s EHS roadmap.
