Databricks has named Kamalkanth Tummala as its new Vice President and Country Manager for India, reinforcing the company’s commitment to its US$250 million investment to accelerate AI innovation across the country. Kamal brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in enterprise technology, having previously served as Vice President at Salesforce, where he spearheaded high-impact programs and drove growth across multiple industries.

“We’re excited to welcome Kamal to our leadership team as we expand in India — one of our most dynamic and strategic growth markets,” said Ed Lenta, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific & Japan, Databricks. “Leading organizations such as CommerceIQ, Freshworks, HDFC Bank, Swiggy, TVS Motors, and Zepto already rely on Databricks to innovate with data and AI. Now, with Kamal on board and our continued investment in India, we are well-positioned to build on this momentum.”

Kamal shared his excitement about the new role, stating, “In India’s dynamic landscape, data and AI are reshaping every organization, and Databricks is uniquely positioned to help enterprises build a lasting competitive advantage. I’m excited to join Databricks during this moment of tremendous growth and momentum. I look forward to working with our customers and partners to accelerate their AI journeys.”

Over the past few years, Databricks has been steadily expanding its footprint in India. The company now operates a 105,000-square-foot R&D facility in Bengaluru, has increased its regional headcount, and launched the India Data + AI Academy to nurture AI talent. These initiatives reflect Databricks’ strategy to strengthen its ecosystem and drive enterprise adoption of data-driven and AI-powered solutions across sectors.

Further highlighting its India ambitions, Databricks will host the Data + AI World Tour Mumbai on September 19, 2025, bringing together industry leaders and innovators to showcase breakthroughs in AI transformation. The event aims to reinforce the company’s vision for data and AI adoption while connecting enterprises with the tools and expertise needed to thrive in a digital-first world.

With Kamal at the helm, Databricks aims to accelerate AI-led innovation, deepen partnerships with Indian enterprises, and expand access to next-generation analytics and AI solutions, solidifying its position as a key player in India’s rapidly evolving technology landscape.
