Deepika Khattar Bhan, President – Packaged Foods at Tata Consumer Products, has been appointed to the Board of Directors at BigBasket, a Tata Group company. Her appointment follows the departure of Aarthi Subramanian, Chief Operating Officer of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), who stepped down to take on broader responsibilities within the TCS group. Deepika’s inclusion on the board highlights BigBasket’s focus on enhancing its strategic leadership in the FMCG and fast-evolving grocery and quick commerce sectors.
Deepika became part of Tata Consumer Products in 2021 and has since led its packaged foods division, playing a key role in strengthening the company’s presence in the segment. Before joining the Tata Group, she spent 15 years at Hindustan Unilever, where she held multiple senior roles, including Global Brand Director for Hair Care in South Asia. Her extensive background spans across sales, marketing, innovation, and P&L management, with a strong track record in building categories and driving brand-led growth.
Her appointment is seen as a strategic move by BigBasket as the platform seeks to sharpen its competitive edge in the grocery delivery and quick commerce market, a space undergoing rapid transformation with changing consumer behavior and increased digital adoption.
An Economics graduate from St. Xavier’s College and an MBA from the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, Deepika is known for her consumer-centric approach and commercial acumen. Her addition to the board is expected to bring valuable insights into brand strategy and market expansion as BigBasket continues to innovate its offerings and expand its reach.
This leadership transition comes at a time when many food-tech and e-commerce companies are reinforcing their boards with experienced FMCG professionals to navigate the complexities of a competitive market and shifting consumer expectations. With Deepika’s expertise, BigBasket is well-positioned to advance its next phase of strategic growth and category leadership.
