Elon Musk’s X platform has appointed Nikita Bier as Head of Product, tasking him with leading product development, boosting user engagement, and integrating advanced AI tools like xAI’s Grok. Bier had been advising the company since October 2023, contributing significantly to the rollout of Grok, the chatbot developed by Musk’s xAI initiative.
Bier announced the news with a post on X, stating, “Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve officially posted my way to the top: I’m joining X as Head of Product. X is the most important social network in the world. It’s where internet culture originates and where the world’s most influential people convene.”
He further added, “While I already spend every waking hour on this app, I’ll now be spending that time helping others unlock that same value. And we’ll certainly be leveraging the power of Grok to create hyper-relevant timelines and help people understand everything that’s happening.”
Bier is widely recognized for building viral consumer apps. He co-founded tbh, a teen-focused social app acquired by Meta in 2017 after rapid user growth. In 2023, he sold Gas, another popular teen social app, to Discord. Known for his sharp understanding of online culture and digital product design, Bier’s track record positions him to help X regain momentum amid challenges in user growth and revenue.
His appointment signals X’s renewed focus on personalized experiences and cultural relevance, as the platform aims to evolve into a richer, AI-integrated social network. With Grok already embedded into the app, Bier is expected to further its integration by enhancing user timelines and expanding intelligent features that boost real-time discovery and interaction.
In addition to his role at X, Bier joined Lightspeed Venture Partners in September 2023 as a product growth partner and also advises Solana Labs.
As X works to reinvent itself under Musk’s ownership, Bier’s addition to the executive team underscores a push toward innovation and user-centric design driven by AI and consumer insight.
