Former UK PM Rishi Sunak Joins Microsoft and Anthropic as Senior Adviser

Former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has taken on part-time advisory roles with U.S. tech giant Microsoft and AI startup Anthropic, leveraging his expertise in strategy, macroeconomics, and geopolitical trends to support global technology initiatives. Sunak, who stepped down as leader of the opposition Conservative Party last July, will continue to serve as a member of the British Parliament while contributing to these firms in a strictly non-UK policy capacity.

In a LinkedIn post, Sunak confirmed that “the proceeds from these positions will be donated in full to The Richmond Project,” a charity he co-founded with his wife Akshata Murty. The advisory positions comply fully with ACOBA regulations, ensuring Sunak will not engage in UK-specific policy matters or lobby government officials on behalf of Microsoft or Anthropic.

At Microsoft, Sunak will provide strategic perspectives at events such as the annual Microsoft Summit, offering insights on macroeconomic trends, technology policy, and global market strategies. At Anthropic, the Amazon- and Google-backed AI startup, Sunak will advise on global strategic matters in a role described as internally focused and part-time, emphasizing his contribution to AI strategy without conflicts of interest.

These appointments reflect Sunak’s ongoing influence at the intersection of finance, technology, and AI innovation, following his July return to Goldman Sachs in an advisory capacity—a company where he began his career as an analyst before moving into government service. Over the years, Sunak’s experience in global finance, economic policy, and political leadership has made him a valued voice in strategic decision-making for multinational corporations.

By joining Microsoft and Anthropic, Sunak is set to offer guidance on emerging AI technologies, international regulatory frameworks, and strategic growth, while simultaneously committing to philanthropic efforts through The Richmond Project. These roles underscore the increasing collaboration between global policymakers and technology leaders in shaping responsible, impactful innovation on an international scale.
