Foxconn, the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer, has approved an investment of up to NT$42 billion (around US $1.37 billion) to establish an advanced AI compute cluster and supercomputing centre between December 2025 and December 2026. The initiative is part of the company’s effort to strengthen its position in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure.
According to an official statement, the project aims to “expand the cloud compute service platform and accelerate the development of the Group’s three smart platforms.” These platforms — Smart Manufacturing, Smart EVs, and Smart Cities — form the core of Foxconn’s ‘3+3’ strategy, which focuses on integrating AI, robotics, and data solutions to drive innovation across sectors.
The investment underscores Foxconn’s ongoing transition beyond traditional electronics manufacturing as it confronts softer demand for consumer devices. The company is now focusing heavily on AI-driven technologies and high-performance computing, positioning itself as a key player in the digital infrastructure ecosystem.
In recent years, Foxconn has unveiled several AI-related projects, including the creation of Taiwan’s fastest AI supercomputer in collaboration with Nvidia and a humanoid robot partnership in Kaohsiung. It has also expanded its footprint globally, with manufacturing and data infrastructure projects in India and the United States aimed at reinforcing its growing AI and cloud network.
While the exact location of the upcoming compute cluster hasn’t been confirmed, sources suggest it will likely be based in Taiwan. The company plans to fund the initiative entirely through its own resources — a sign of strong confidence in the long-term value of AI-led transformation.
This investment marks a pivotal step in Foxconn’s evolution toward next-generation digital services. By strengthening its AI and supercomputing capabilities, the company is laying the groundwork for smarter manufacturing, autonomous mobility, and connected urban ecosystems — aligning itself with the future of high-performance, AI-powered innovation.
