GitHub Launches ‘Agents Panel’ to Boost Developer Productivity with Seamless Agentic Workflows

GitHub has unveiled a powerful new feature called the ‘Agents Panel’, designed to serve as a “mission control centre for agentic workflows.” Now available in preview across all paid GitHub Copilot plans — including Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise — the feature enhances developer efficiency by allowing task delegation via natural language, all without navigating away from the current page.

With the Agents Panel, developers can assign background tasks, track real-time progress, and instantly dive into pull requests once they’re ready — directly from the overlay interface. This upgrade builds on the Copilot coding agent’s existing capabilities, which already let developers delegate tasks through GitHub.com, GitHub Mobile, VS Code, and other MCP-enabled platforms. These agents work in the background to generate pull request drafts in the cloud, enabling uninterrupted development workflows.

By integrating agentic workflows directly into GitHub’s UI, the company aims to further streamline coding tasks and improve real-time collaboration — a move that reflects GitHub’s ongoing commitment to AI-powered development.

The release also comes amid significant momentum for GitHub Copilot. According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, enterprise adoption has surged, with a 75% quarter-over-quarter growth in enterprise customers. “GitHub usage and repos are seeing explosive growth because of AI,” Nadella stated, emphasizing that 90% of Fortune 100 companies are now using Copilot. He also noted that AI-related projects on GitHub have more than doubled over the past year.

This major update follows a leadership change at GitHub. Former CEO Thomas Dohmke stepped down at the end of the year after four years at the helm. While he sets off on a new entrepreneurial journey, GitHub will now operate under Microsoft’s CoreAI organization, continuing its mission to lead the future of AI-enhanced software development.

As the developer landscape evolves, GitHub’s enhanced Copilot tools and agentic interfaces are poised to play a critical role in redefining how modern software is built — faster, smarter, and with less friction.
