HDFC ERGO Names Parthanil Ghosh as MD & CEO

HDFC ERGO General Insurance has elevated Parthanil Ghosh as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective April 16, 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.

Ghosh will succeed Anuj Tyagi, who currently serves as the company’s CEO and will step down following the transition.

The elevation marks a leadership transition at one of India’s leading private-sector general insurers as it prepares for its next phase of growth amid increasing digitalisation and competition in the insurance sector.

Ghosh brings more than three decades of experience in financial services and insurance, including over 16 years in the general insurance industry. He joined HDFC ERGO in 2016 following the merger with L&T General Insurance and has played a key role in shaping the company’s growth trajectory. He currently serves as Executive Director, a position he assumed in May 2025.

During his tenure, he has contributed to strengthening the company’s retail franchise and building capabilities across commercial lines, crop insurance, underwriting, reinsurance strategy, claims management, and digital and information technology functions.

Ghosh has also been involved in major strategic integrations, including the consolidation of L&T General Insurance and Apollo Munich Health Insurance, helping create a unified operating platform for HDFC ERGO.

Commenting on the development, Keki M. Mistry, Chairman of the Board of HDFC ERGO, said Ghosh brings deep industry expertise, strong operational insight and strategic leadership to the role. He added that the board is confident Ghosh will build on the company’s progress and guide it through the next phase of growth.

Theo Kokkalas, Chairman of the Board of Management at ERGO International AG and Chief Operating Officer of ERGO International, said India remains a strategic growth market and expressed confidence that under Ghosh’s leadership the company will continue to focus on customer-centricity, digital innovation and sustainable growth.

The company also thanked Tyagi for his contributions and leadership during his tenure.
