Helium Air Bags Raises $2 Million to Accelerate Smart AC Development

Helium Smart Air, a startup focused on building next-generation air conditioning solutions, has raised $2 million (around ₹19 crore) in a seed funding round led by India Quotient. The company plans to use the funds to fast-track product development, expand its distribution network, and invest further in research and development.

Founded in 2025 by IIT Kanpur alumni Ashish Sharma and Aman Munka, the startup is working on affordable, compact, and energy-efficient air conditioning systems tailored for modern urban spaces. Unlike traditional ACs, which are often oversized and energy-intensive, Helium aims to design “right-sized cooling solutions” suited for smaller spaces such as bedrooms, office cabins, and small commercial setups.

To strengthen its technological capabilities, the company has partnered with IIT Kanpur as its research collaborator. The focus is on developing smart cooling systems that operate at lower costs while maintaining efficiency. These AC units are being designed with IoT-enabled features, including app-based controls, gas leakage detection, and device health analytics to improve performance and reduce maintenance costs.

Helium’s first product is built for spaces up to 100 square feet and comes with a 2,700-watt capacity. Notably, it can run on a 1 kW solar panel, highlighting the company’s emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainable cooling solutions. The product is expected to be priced at around ₹17,000, making it a cost-effective alternative to conventional air conditioners.

The startup has also partnered with Urban Company for installation and maintenance services, ensuring a streamlined customer experience post-purchase. Deliveries of its first product are expected to begin soon, with initial availability in select showrooms across Delhi NCR and Rajasthan before expanding to other regions.

Helium’s entry comes at a time when India’s home appliance market is witnessing a shift toward smart, energy-efficient, and space-saving solutions. By combining affordability, IoT integration, and sustainable energy usage, the company aims to disrupt the traditional AC segment and cater to evolving urban consumer needs.
