ICICI Lombard Enhances Disaster Recovery Capabilities with AWS-Powered Cloud Solution

ICICI Lombard has successfully upgraded its cross-region disaster recovery (DR) infrastructure by partnering with Amazon Web Services (AWS). The company has shifted its secondary DR site from Mumbai to Hyderabad, ensuring uninterrupted access to critical applications even during unexpected outages. This move incorporates advanced cloud-native tools, including automated failover mechanisms and real-time validation, to enhance operational resilience.

The new solution leverages AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery, AWS Step Functions, and infrastructure-as-code to build a fully automated and scalable DR framework. Continuous data replication combined with domain-based routing allows for seamless switchover with minimal human intervention. This setup significantly reduces downtime and ensures business continuity in the face of potential disruptions.

ICICI Lombard emphasized that this DR transformation is more than a technical upgrade—it reflects a strategic investment in operational continuity and digital resilience. The insurer now has the ability to automatically detect disruptions and instantly shift workloads to the backup site, keeping customer services live without manual processes.

“We seamlessly transitioned all business applications to our secondary cloud region, demonstrating our readiness to operate without disruption during unforeseen events. This was not just a test of technology, but a validation of vision,” said Girish Nayak, Chief of Technology and Health (Underwriting & Claims) at ICICI Lombard.

The collaboration highlights AWS’s ongoing support for India’s financial services sector in adopting cutting-edge technologies to ensure operational efficiency and secure digital infrastructure. “AWS is pleased to collaborate with ICICI Lombard to secure its mission-critical workloads, ensuring faster application recovery, greater reliability and data protection through a fully automated data recovery process,” added Kiran Jagannath, Head of Financial Services and Conglomerates at AWS India and South Asia.

With this development, ICICI Lombard reinforces its commitment to delivering uninterrupted services to its customers, while also demonstrating leadership in cloud adoption within the insurance industry.
