India Accelerates Towards AI Independence with Multilingual and Agentic Innovations

India’s artificial intelligence landscape reached a new inflection point last week as a trio of major developments signaled growing momentum toward a homegrown AI ecosystem.

Sarvam AI introduced advanced multilingual agents, Krutrim launched what it claims is the country’s first agentic AI assistant, and CoRover unveiled a multilingual AI model capable of functioning offline. These advancements represent more than just technological milestones—they’re laying the foundation for a self-reliant AI future.

Rather than isolated achievements, these launches reflect a coordinated push toward building an India-first AI stack, one designed for scale, impact, and global relevance. Together, they highlight the nation’s evolving AI capability—rooted in local languages, cultural context, and the ambition to lead on the world stage.
