India is set to launch four Responsible AI (RAI) tools by December 2025 as part of the ₹10,000 crore IndiaAI Mission, under its ‘Safe and Trusted AI’ initiative. These tools will focus on bias mitigation, fairness assessment, machine learning transparency, and risk evaluation. According to Kavita Bhatia, COO of the IndiaAI Mission, they will be made available through the government’s AI platform, AIKosh.
In addition to these solutions, the government is currently assessing more than 400 AI tools—including technologies for deepfake detection and AI content watermarking—with plans to release them as open-source assets. It also intends to greenlight 30 AI development projects centered on sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, governance, climate change, and learning disabilities.
The initiative has received praise from industry leaders. Alpan Raval, Chief AI/ML Scientist at Wadhwani AI, remarked, “India has taken the lead in using AI for social good—not just in theory but in actual implementation.” Sourav Banerjee of United We Care highlighted the rising importance of ethical AI, saying it is becoming fundamental across sectors.
With platforms like AIKosh and a focus on responsible innovation, the IndiaAI Mission aims to establish India as a global leader in safe, inclusive, and ethical AI deployment.
