IndiaAI CEO Abhishek Singh announced a significant milestone for the national AI Mission, confirming that 38,000 GPUs have been brought online through a new partnership, lowering the cost to ₹65 per GPU. He emphasised that while this marks substantial progress, the country will soon need far greater compute capacity to keep up with the pace of global AI development.
Singh also outlined advances in India’s foundation model ecosystem, noting that IndiaAI is currently supporting 12 model-building initiatives across the country. Bengaluru-based Sarvam AI, one of the key participants, is “very near to launching” its foundation model and may unveil it at the upcoming IndiaAI Impact Summit in February—a moment that could signal a major step forward for India’s model-building ambitions.
