Mahaveer Singhvi Elevated to Additional Secretary at Ministry of External Affairs

Mahaveer Singhvi has been elevated to the position of Additional Secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, marking a significant step forward in his distinguished diplomatic career. Announcing the elevation, Singhvi said, “happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Addtional Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs at Ministry of External Affairs, India!” The move places him among the senior leadership at the MEA at a time when India’s global engagement is expanding in scope and complexity.

Singhvi has spent close to three decades in the Ministry of External Affairs, holding a range of strategic and regionally critical roles. Most recently, he served as Joint Secretary (New Emerging and Strategic Technologies Division) from March 2023, where he played a key role in advancing India’s diplomatic engagement on critical and emerging technologies. His work in this role aligned foreign policy priorities with technology-driven diplomacy, an area of growing importance for India’s global positioning.

Earlier, Singhvi held long tenures as Joint Secretary (Central Europe) and Director (Central Europe), where he was responsible for managing all aspects of India’s relationship with nearly 30 European countries. These roles involved overseeing political dialogue, economic cooperation, and strategic partnerships across the region, significantly strengthening India’s engagement with Central and Eastern Europe.

His experience also spans multilateral and regional diplomacy. As Director (SAARC, BIMSTEC & Border Connectivity), he handled India’s engagement with key regional groupings in South Asia and the Bay of Bengal region, along with initiatives related to cross-border connectivity. Prior to that, as Director (East and Southern Africa), Singhvi managed India’s emerging relationships with countries across East and Southern Africa, engagement with the African Union and IGAD, and development partnership projects under the India–Africa Forum Summit framework.

Singhvi’s elevation to Additional Secretary reflects the Ministry’s emphasis on continuity, deep regional expertise, and seasoned leadership. With his broad experience across Europe, Africa, South Asia, and technology diplomacy, he is well positioned to contribute to India’s evolving foreign policy priorities at a senior level.
