OpenAI Acquires TBPN, Marking Strategic Entry into Media and AI Discourse

OpenAI has acquired TBPN (Technology Business Programming Network), a fast-growing, founder-led tech and business talk show, marking the company’s first major move into the media space. The show, launched in 2024 by entrepreneurs John Coogan and Jordi Hays, has gained significant traction in Silicon Valley for its in-depth conversations with industry leaders and its daily three-hour live format.

Known for its engaging, “SportsCenter-style” coverage of technology and business, TBPN has hosted prominent figures such as Mark Zuckerberg, Satya Nadella, Marc Benioff, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The platform has built a strong following by offering candid discussions and insider perspectives on the tech ecosystem.

While financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, TBPN is already a commercially successful media property, reportedly on track to generate over $30 million in revenue this year. The acquisition includes the show’s team, with its founders joining OpenAI as part of the transition.

OpenAI plans to retain TBPN as an independent brand while leveraging its strengths in communication and audience engagement. The company highlighted the show’s “comms and marketing instincts” as a key asset, particularly as it looks to better explain the impact of artificial intelligence to a broader audience.

The move reflects OpenAI’s broader strategy to shape public understanding and conversation around AI. As the company advances toward artificial general intelligence (AGI), leadership emphasized the need for platforms that enable informed and constructive dialogue about the technology’s societal implications.

This acquisition also signals a growing trend of technology companies investing in media platforms to strengthen their influence, build brand narratives, and directly engage with users. By integrating TBPN into its ecosystem, OpenAI is positioning itself not only as a technology leader but also as a key voice in the global AI conversation.
