OpenAI has reached a remarkable milestone, officially surpassing 1 million business customers worldwide, cementing its position as the fastest-growing business platform in history. The figure includes organizations using ChatGPT for Work and those building directly on OpenAI’s developer platform. The company attributed this rapid growth to the surge in consumer adoption, noting that ChatGPT now engages over 800 million weekly users.
In a statement, OpenAI revealed that ChatGPT for Work has grown to 7 million seats, marking a 40% rise in just two months, while ChatGPT Enterprise has expanded nearly ninefold year-over-year. This exponential growth highlights the accelerating adoption of AI across industries as enterprises embrace generative AI for productivity, innovation, and decision-making.
To build on this momentum, OpenAI announced a suite of new tools for enterprise users. Among them, Company Knowledge allows ChatGPT to securely access and utilize organizational data from platforms like Slack, SharePoint, Google Drive, and GitHub, enabling richer, context-aware insights. Additionally, AgentKit, a new development framework, empowers businesses to create and deploy custom AI agents tailored to their workflows.
The company also reported significant traction in its Codex model for code generation and automation, with usage up tenfold since August. Enterprises like Cisco have reported 50% faster code reviews, while Carlyle Group used AgentKit to cut development time on its due diligence framework by over half. OpenAI has further enhanced its product ecosystem with upgrades including Sora 2, the Realtime API, and an Image Generation API, designed to improve multimodal performance across text, image, and video.
Citing research from the Wharton School, OpenAI emphasized that 75% of enterprises report positive ROI from AI adoption, underscoring the tangible value of integrating AI into business operations. Industry leaders such as Amgen, Commonwealth Bank, Booking.com, Lowe’s India, Target, Morgan Stanley, and Thermo Fisher Scientific are among its growing enterprise clientele.
Meanwhile, consumer-focused brands like Canva, Figma, Shopify, Spotify, and Zillow are integrating their applications into ChatGPT, while Walmart, PayPal, and Etsy are adopting OpenAI’s Agentic Commerce Protocol to power next-generation conversational shopping experiences.
With these advancements, OpenAI continues to redefine how businesses leverage AI—transforming from experimentation to enterprise-scale execution.
