OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT Go, a new subscription plan priced at ₹399 per month in India, aimed at expanding access to advanced AI tools at a highly affordable rate. The new plan includes 10x higher message limits with the powerful GPT-5 model, increased daily allowances for image generation and file uploads, and 2x longer memory for more personalized interactions — all significantly enhanced compared to the free tier.
India has quickly become OpenAI’s second-largest and one of its fastest-growing user bases, making the country a major focus area for expansion. “We’ve been inspired by how millions of people in India use ChatGPT daily for learning, work, creativity, and problem-solving. With ChatGPT Go, we’re excited to make these capabilities even more accessible and easier to pay for through UPI,” said Nick Turley, VP and Head of ChatGPT at OpenAI.
In addition to launching ChatGPT Go, OpenAI has also enabled UPI payment support for its other paid plans — ChatGPT Plus at ₹1,999/month and ChatGPT Pro at ₹19,999/month. The Pro plan, in particular, offers near-unlimited access to GPT-5, catering to power users and professionals who rely on advanced AI capabilities.
The rollout of ChatGPT Go comes on the heels of the release of GPT-5, OpenAI’s most powerful model to date. The new model offers notable improvements in tasks such as software development, creative writing, and health-related guidance. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, described GPT-5 as providing “instant access to a group of PhD-level experts.”
The move is part of OpenAI’s broader effort to democratize access to cutting-edge AI in India — a market where demand for generative AI tools is rapidly rising. This competitive push also follows recent moves by other players, including Perplexity’s partnership with Airtel to offer its Pro plan (valued at ₹17,000) for free for a year, and Google’s initiative to provide students free access to Gemini Advanced, worth ₹19,500.
With ChatGPT Go, OpenAI is making powerful AI more accessible to millions of users across India — at a fraction of the cost of competing services.
