Salesforce has introduced a major AI-driven upgrade to Slack, rolling out more than 30 new features aimed at transforming the platform into a comprehensive enterprise productivity hub. The announcement highlights the company’s broader push to embed artificial intelligence deeply into workplace tools and workflows.
At the center of this update is a significant upgrade to Slackbot, which is evolving from a basic assistant into a more advanced AI agent capable of executing complex workplace tasks. The new features build on earlier updates that enabled Slackbot to draft emails, schedule meetings, and retrieve specific information from conversations and inboxes.
One of the most notable additions is the introduction of reusable AI “skills,” which allow users to define specific tasks that Slackbot can perform repeatedly across different contexts. These skills can be customized or selected from a pre-built library, enabling employees to automate routine workflows. For example, a user can prompt Slackbot to create a budget for an event, after which the system gathers relevant data from Slack channels and connected applications, generates a plan, and even schedules a meeting with appropriate stakeholders.
The upgrade also expands Slackbot’s capabilities beyond simple interactions, enabling it to act as a full enterprise agent that can operate across tools, summarize meetings, and manage workflows more autonomously. This reflects a shift toward “agentic AI,” where systems are designed not just to assist but to independently execute multi-step tasks within business environments.
The new features are expected to roll out over the coming months and represent one of the most significant updates to Slack since its acquisition by Salesforce. The move underscores a growing trend among enterprise software providers to integrate AI directly into core collaboration platforms, aiming to reduce manual work and improve organizational efficiency.
