Saudi AI Firm Humain Backs Elon Musk’s xAI with $3 Billion Investment

Humain, Saudi Arabia’s national artificial intelligence company, has invested $3 billion in xAI as part of the company’s Series E funding round, the firm confirmed on Wednesday. The investment was made shortly before xAI’s subsequent acquisition by SpaceX.

Following the transaction, Humain became what it described as a “significant” minority shareholder in xAI. As part of the deal structure, its xAI stake was converted into shares of SpaceX after the acquisition was completed.

The move aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader ambition to expand its footprint in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies. As the kingdom works to reduce its economic reliance on oil revenues, it has been actively investing in sectors such as AI, where rising global demand for compute capacity presents long-term strategic opportunities.

This latest investment builds on an earlier collaboration between Humain and xAI announced in November during the U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum. At that time, both companies revealed plans to jointly develop 500 megawatts of AI data centre infrastructure, reflecting a shared focus on scaling high-performance computing capabilities.

In January, xAI disclosed that it had raised $20 billion in an expanded Series E funding round. The capital infusion was aimed at accelerating the rollout of new AI models and strengthening infrastructure as the company seeks to compete more aggressively with rivals such as OpenAI and Anthropic.

A month after announcing the fundraising, Elon Musk’s SpaceX completed the acquisition of xAI in a major consolidation move. The transaction combined Musk’s artificial intelligence venture with his space and rocket enterprise, bringing AI and aerospace capabilities under a single corporate structure.

Humain’s investment therefore not only underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to becoming a global AI player, but also places the kingdom’s AI company within one of the most high-profile technology consolidations led by Elon Musk.
