Defense technology startup Shield AI has reached a valuation of $12.7 billion following a massive Series G funding round of approximately $1.5 billion, marking a sharp 140% increase from its $5.3 billion valuation in 2025. The surge underscores growing investor confidence in AI-driven defense technologies amid rising global demand.
The funding round was led by Advent International and backed by JPMorgan’s Strategic Investment Group, along with participation from existing investors. In addition, the company raised $500 million through preferred equity from Blackstone and secured a $250 million credit facility, further strengthening its capital position.
A key driver behind the valuation jump is Shield AI’s recent win with the U.S. Air Force. The company’s flagship autonomy software, Hivemind, was selected as a provider for the Air Force’s Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program, which focuses on AI-powered autonomous drones designed to operate alongside fighter jets.
Hivemind enables aircraft to operate autonomously in GPS-denied environments, making it a critical technology for next-generation warfare. The software has already been tested on platforms such as fighter jets and unmanned systems, positioning Shield AI as a key player in the shift toward AI-led military operations.
As part of its growth strategy, the company also plans to acquire simulation software firm Aechelon Technology, which will enhance its ability to train and test autonomous systems in high-fidelity virtual environments.
The rapid rise in valuation reflects a broader trend of increased investment in defense tech, particularly in AI and autonomous systems. With geopolitical tensions driving demand for advanced military capabilities, companies like Shield AI are emerging as central players in the modernization of defense infrastructure.
