Sona Comstar Forms Joint Venture with Jinnaite Machinery to Manufacture EV Components in China

Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar) has announced a strategic joint venture with China-based Jinnaite Machinery Co. (JNT) to manufacture electric vehicle (EV) components, marking a significant expansion into the world’s largest EV market. The update was disclosed through a regulatory filing on Sunday.

As per the agreement, Sona Comstar will invest $12 million, while JNT will contribute $8 million in assets and business as part of the initial phase of the venture. The new entity will focus on the production and supply of driveline systems and related components for automotive manufacturers in China and other global markets. Operations are slated to begin in the second half of the current financial year.

The company emphasized that this move is part of its broader strategy to strengthen its footprint across fast-growing automotive markets in Asia. “As a leading global supplier of driveline solutions across automotive segments, the company is expanding its reach into fast-growing Asian markets,” Sona Comstar stated. Their expansion plan also includes bolstering presence in India, Japan, and South Korea, while continuing to grow in North America and Europe.

The partnership is seen as a key step in Sona Comstar’s long-term ambition to become a major global supplier of EV components. JNT brings robust capabilities to the table, with 63 patents and 36 proprietary technologies, and operates a patented technology-based foundry. The company also contributes significantly to China’s national standards in manufacturing and caters to sectors including automotive, off-highway, and railways, both domestically and internationally.

Vivek Vikram Singh, Managing Director and Group CEO of Sona Comstar, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership, stating: “As the largest electric vehicle market in the world and a leader in EV technologies, China offers tremendous opportunities for innovation and growth. By leveraging the strengths of both partners, this venture is well-positioned for strong growth, and it has the potential to become a key supplier of driveline solutions for electric vehicles in the region. With a robust order book already in place, we expect operations to commence later this year.”

This collaboration reflects Sona Comstar’s commitment to global growth and innovation in the evolving EV landscape.
