
SpiceJet Limited has announced the appointment of Sanjay Kumar as its new Executive Director, marking a significant leadership addition aimed at steering the airline through its next phase of transformation and growth. A veteran of over 25 years in the aviation industry, Sanjay brings a wealth of strategic and operational experience from his tenure at leading airlines, including Air Sahara, IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd), and AirAsia India.
Sanjay’s association with SpiceJet goes back to its early years. He played a pivotal role in the airline’s successful launch in 2005 as Vice President – Planning and Marketing, laying the foundation for its market positioning and growth trajectory. His leadership journey further expanded at IndiGo, where, as Chief Commercial Officer, he was instrumental in driving the airline’s rise to market leadership through data-driven strategy and a sharp focus on operational efficiency.
Known for his strategic acumen and analytical decision-making, Sanjay has consistently delivered growth, profitability, and innovation in each organization he has led. His deep understanding of the aviation ecosystem, coupled with his expertise in revenue management and customer-centric strategies, positions him well to lead SpiceJet into its next phase of evolution.
Before rejoining SpiceJet, Sanjay held several key leadership positions, including Chief Operating Officer at AirAsia India, Chief Strategy & Revenue Officer at IndiGo, and President & CEO at ITQ Technologies—the official Travelport distributor for India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Bhutan. In addition, he served as Advisor to the Director General at SAUDI AIRLINES, where he guided strategic initiatives across the KSA–India subcontinent network.
As Sanjay takes over his new role at SpiceJet, his appointment underscores the airline’s renewed focus on operational excellence, strategic expansion, and sustainable profitability.
